Somkiat Chantra bo postal prvi tajski dirkač, ki bo tekmoval v MotoGP. Med letoma 2019 in 2024 je z ekipo Idemitsu Honda Team Asia dirkal v Moto2. Leta 2022 se je zapisal v zgodovino kot prvi tajski dirkač, ki je zmagal na dirki za Veliko nagrado, saj je dosegel zmago v Indoneziji. Leto pozneje je na japonski veliki nagradi v Motegiju dosegel še eno zmago.
