The first Hungarian MotoGP race after 33 years delivered plenty of drama. Marc Márquez fought hard with Marco Bezzecchi in the opening laps before pulling away to secure victory. Rookie Pedro Acosta impressed again with second place, while Bezzecchi completed the podium in third.
The conditions were sunny and stable, and after a trouble-free warm-up the race got underway. From Saturday’s sprint, both Enea Bastianini and Fabio Quartararo carried long-lap penalties into Sunday, while Fabio Di Giannantonio was forced to start from the pit lane after switching bikes at the last minute.
At lights out, both Márquez and Bezzecchi launched well. Marc briefly grabbed the lead, but Bezzecchi dived past at Turn 2, pushing Márquez wide and dropping him back. Francesco Bagnaia also made a sharp getaway, climbing to 7th. The first incident came quickly when Bastianini crashed out on the opening lap. The order across the line was Bezzecchi, Morbidelli, Márquez, Acosta, and Aldeguer.
Lap 2 saw Alex Márquez fall at Turn 1 but rejoin, while lap 4 produced a double crash as Joan Mir and Raúl Fernández went down in Sector 2. That same lap, Quartararo served his penalty and slipped from 7th to 12th. Meanwhile, Márquez was closing on Morbidelli, and on lap 5 he made the pass to move into 2nd, setting his sights on Bezzecchi.
After losing ground, Morbidelli had to defend from Acosta, but by lap 6 the KTM rider was through.
The duel at the front heated up on lap 7, Márquez briefly taking the lead before Bezzecchi struck back. The Spaniard finally made it stick on lap 11 and immediately began stretching a gap. By lap 12 he was clear out front.
More drama followed: Fermín Aldeguer crashed on lap 14, while Acosta caught and passed Bezzecchi for 2nd at Turn 1 on lap 15. Márquez’s advantage was now over 2.5 seconds. Jack Miller’s crash on lap 17 brought another yellow flag, and Jorge Martin, who had started 16th, had worked his way into the top five.
By lap 20, Bagnaia was pressuring Pol Espargaró for 8th, and Johann Zarco’s fall in Sector 2 triggered yet another yellow. At the sharp end, Márquez controlled proceedings with a margin of more than three seconds, while Martin passed Morbidelli for 4th despite a track-limits warning.
In the closing stages, Luca Marini overtook Morbidelli to secure his strongest result of the season.
At the flag, Márquez celebrated a commanding victory ahead of Acosta and Bezzecchi, rounding off a race packed with overtakes, crashes, and storylines throughout the field.
